Easy Pizza Sauce

Easy Pizza Sauce

  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cup white onion, finely chopped
  • 8 cup tomatoes, peeled and seeded (puréed in blender)
  • 2 6 oz cans tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp dried oregano, crumbled
  • 2 tsp dried basil, crumbled
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 2 Tbsp garlic, finely chopped

  1. Begin by washing, peeling and removing seeds from tomatoes. Place tomatoes in blender and purée until smooth.
  2. In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat until the oil is hot and glistening.
  3. Add in chopped onions and cook over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes or until onions are translucent and tender.
  4. Add finely chopped garlic and cook for one minute.
  5. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, bay leaf, salt, and pepper and bring to boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 55 to 60 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken, stirring occasionally.
  6. When the sauce reaches desired smoothness and consistency, remove from heat and remove bay leaf. Season with salt and pepper, if needed. Can be frozen or canned.
