Hot Buttered Cider with Cinnamon & Ginger

Ingredients

  • 4 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp whole cloves
  • 3 Tbsp whole allspice
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sliced candied or crystalized ginger
  • 6 cup apple cider
  • 2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice (juice of 1 to 2 lemon(s))
  • 1 stick butter, thinly sliced
  • 16 cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large non-aluminum saucepan over medium-high to high heat, combine water and sugar; bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sugar mixture from sticking or burning to bottom of pan.
  2. Remove sugar mixture from heat. Stir in cloves, allspice, 2 cinnamon sticks, and ginger. Set aside and let stand for 1 hour to allow flavors to develop.
  3. Strain mixture and place strained mixture in blender along with apple juice, orange juice, and lemon juice. Blend well and return to saucepan. Reheat.
  4. Pour hot cider into large mugs and garnish each cider with a slice of butter and 1 cinnamon stick. Yield: 16  six-ounce servings
