Chick Pea Soup

Chick peas have been a staple in Middle Eastern dishes for a long time, but now as many household kitchens go international the chick pea is gaining status as a hearty staple in the kitchen. This chick pea soup recipe includes a ton of flavor and using a Vitamix or Blendtec blender makes it extremely to make.


  • 2 cans washed and drained chick peas
  • 1 medium-sized onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili pepper
  • 4 tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • olive oil
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup water


  1. Place onion, garlic, green pepper in blender and puree, add remaining ingredients except for chick peas and broth
  2. Heat oil in heavy pot and add blender mixture to oil.
  3. Stir and cook for five minutes in oil.
  4. Add chick peas and broth.
  5. Simmer covered on medium-low for 25 minutes.
